The Learning Styles馃馃摎

Hello Dear Reader in this week we going to talk about 4 styles to learn a second language. We mentioned before that scientists have for years tried to understand the best ways students learn through research. One of the popular theories, to this day, is the VARK model. This model identifies four types of learners:  visual, auditory, kinesthetic,  and  reading/writing . Most people are a combination of these four styles, but more times than not, they have a predominant style of learning. Each of these styles has a complementary way of teaching. Now, let’s talk about the characteristics each of these styles entails and how best to make use of them. 1. Visual Learning Style Visual learners are individuals who prefer to take in their information visually—be that with maps, graphs, diagrams, charts, and others. However, they don’t necessarily respond well to photos or videos, rather needing their information using different visual aids such as patterns and shapes. The...

Multiple Intelligences馃馃摎

Hello dear reader, we find ourselves again with a new topic. The topic we will be studying this week is called Multiple Intelligences. The theory of multiple intelligences is a model of understanding the mind developed by Howard Gardner and published in 1983. For him, intelligence is not a unitary set that groups together different specific abilities, but rather a network of autonomous, relatively interrelated sets. Intelligence types Howard Gardner argues that, just as there are many types of problems to solve, there are also many types of intelligence. He made the decision to write about "Multiple Intelligences" to highlight the unknown number of human capabilities, and intelligences to emphasize that these capabilities are as fundamental as those traditionally detected by the Intelligence Quotient (IQ). To date, Howard Gardner and his team at Harvard University have identified twelve different types of intelligence: 1- Linguistic-Verbal:   It consists of the domination of ...

Hello dear reader, we find ourselves again with a new topic and a new period of study. During this week we will study about "The collaborative Approach" during class on Tuesday we begin by learning a little about the topic on which this teaching method is based on; involves pupils working together on activities or learning tasks in a group small enough to ensure that everyone participates. Pupils in the group may work on separate tasks contributing to a common overall outcome, or work together on a shared task. Likewise, we did a little practice on how this method is developed, in which we were in teams discussing some social issues. Here is the list of the topics we discussed and some photos of the group I was working on this week.                                                                    To conti...

Hello again little reader, this week we continued with presentations by my colleagues in which we had the opportunity to learn from them about the audio - lingual method which is also called the Army Method, the reason why it is called that. It is because it began in the Second World War, so that combatants could communicate with their allies or enemies. This method emphasizes listening and speaking more than reading and writing. Our classmates also explained about the direct method which, as we have already seen in previous classes, is called the natural method. This method was established in Germany and France around the 1990s and was a contrast to GTM. To end the presentations, a group spoke about The Silent Way method that was founded by the Egyptian mathematician Caleb Gattegno. And on Thursday we took our midterm exam in which we tested the knowledge acquired during this first registration. Stay with us, we still have a lot to learn. See you soon!馃摎馃挮
